Dr. Hap Gilliland, President of the Council for Indian Education is available as a conference speaker, or to conduct teacher training workshops on TEACHING THE NATIVE AMERICAN or COOPERATIVE LEARNING.

While at a location he often volunteers to also speak to public school students or other groups on CREATIVE WRITING, NATIVE AMERICAN WAY OF LIFE, LIFE IN THE SOUTH AMERICAN RAIN FOREST, THE PEOPLE OF NEPAL, or other subjects.

Dr. Gilliland is chairman of the Intertribal Cultural Editorial Committee that selects all material to be published by the Council for Indian Education.  He has lived and worked with the indigenous people on all six continents and some Pacific Islands, learning their cultures by living them.

He was director of teacher training in reading and the reading clinic at Montana State University-Billings for 18 years.  He taught Elementary, Junior High, and High School for 11 years, and was Bicultural, Multilingual Reading Specialist in Alaska 3 years.  He has worked very closely with the Cheyenne people for many years, and has consulted with native American groups throughout the western U.S. on their educational programs.

Hap is the author of 21 college text books, 17 children's books, 3 novels, one book of poetry, and a guide to animal tracks and tracking.

Gilliland's usual fee is $250 per day if for two or more days.  (Travel days considered at half price.)

He also consults with new authors writing books for children and youth at $25 per hour.  For Montana writers this fee is paid by the Montana Committee for the Arts, as part of their Arts Pro Consultant Service.
